I don't have fireflies in my garden - which is a shame... only cats, bees, a dog and the odd dragonfly!! So please settle down with a cuppa, put your feet up and enjoy!

Gifted Gorgeousness SAL 2016 - Update #2

Told you I'd be back again real soon!

As I am sure most of you are aware it was GG day on 15th of the month - which means I am late posting.. again!

But I have a very good reason why.... I picked up one of my old GG pieces on Sunday, and as I was so close to finishing it I thought I would get the last of the stitches in and then I could show you a finish!

So here goes...

Lizzie Kate - Joyeux Noel
Giveaway win from Kay's Random World - link to Kay's original giveaway post here and link to my post about the giveaway win is here

Tiny Tidings XV - Lizzie Kate
The last time that you saw 'Joyeux Noel" was in the August 2015 update when it looked like this:

"Joyeux Noel" - Designer: Lizzie Kate
as at August 2015
And now it is finished......

Finish #6
Joyeux Noel - Lizzie Kate's Tiny Tidings XV

"Joyeux Noel" - Designer: Lizzie Kate
Finished: 16 February 2016
The chart does suggest stitching a gold bow charm to the top of the "O" in Noel but as I don't have the LK embelishment pack for the charts I don't have the bow.  If I can locate a little bow I will add it but I think it looks ok without it.... after all the gold beads and gold flecked fabric add a nice bit of bling!

So another finish for 2016 ticked off the list.... and another 2015 WIP done and dusted!

Don't forget to visit Jo's blog for the link ups to everyone's GG post for the month.  I am so far behind on reading everyone's blog posts, but I am slowing getting around to seeing what everyone is doing in blogland.

So that's it for me today - 2 posts in one day - goodness me... bet you all nearly fell off your chairs when you saw 2 posts!! :o)

Til next time, happy stitching
Hugs xx

Jo from Serendipitous Stitching hosts the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL.  The GG SAL is about stitching charts/kits or using fabrics & threads that we have received as gifts, won in giveaways or anything that is intended be a gift or giveaway prize... or anything else that you can loosely use the word "gift" for!!  If you wish to sign up for this SAL, click on the button below or the button on my sidebar and you will be re-directed to Jo's blog.

My First Prairie Schooler!

Yes, you read the title correctly!  I have just stitched my very first Prairie Schooler design!  And I loved it... don't know why it took me so long to stitch one!  As usual I am late to the party and I have discovered that I enjoy stitching them just as the designers have decided to stop designing!!

My first PS stitch is "Pumpkin Man".  I stitched him for the Hallowe'en Ornie SAL Blog as February's theme is "Mummies and Monsters".  I always have trouble finding designs for this theme as I am not a stitcher of monsters normally... but when I saw this design I thought he was cute and just the thing for February!!

Finish #5
"Pumpkin Man" - The Prairie Schooler

"Pumpkin Man"
Finished 14 February 2016
The design was published in the Just Cross Stitch Magazine Halloween 2015 issue.  He was very quick to stitch, which was great as a quick finish is just the way I like it!! :o)

I have now started another small Prairie Schooler design which I hope to be able to show you in the next few days as I think it should stitch up quite quickly as well.

So that's it for this post... but I will be back shortly with my GG update and another finish!!

See you then!
Hugs xx

Secret Stitching Sweethearts Blog Hop

Happy Valentine's Day

Jo from Serendipitous Stitching is hosting her annual Secret Stitching Sweethearts Blog Hop today.

The idea behind the blog hop is that we all send a photo of our Valentine's or love inspired stitching to Jo; she then sends the photos out to everyone who has joined in the blog hop... but only Jo knows who got what stitching pic!  It is now up to us to go hopping around blog land and see who has our pic - we then reveal ourselves as the Secret Stitching Sweetheart!

Below is the gorgeous Stitching Sweetheart pic that Jo sent me:

Secret Stitching Sweetheart Blog Hop pic.... who is the mystery stitcher??
Isn't this just the most gorgeous piece of "heart" stitching?  I love the hardanger style heart at the bottom of the main heart.

Now I need to wait til the mystery stitcher reveals herself....

In the meantime, I am going to go over to Jo's blog and start the blog hop to see who received my Secret Stitching Sweetheart picture!  Please join us all over at Jo's blog - link is here

Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not.... enjoy your Sunday... and feel the love!

Happy Stitching...

TUSAL Feb 2016 and another Finish!

TUSAL
ORT Report:
Yes.... I know... late again... but only by a couple of days this time!  So without further ado... here are the ORT's :o)

Jan / Feb 2016 ORT's
In the background you can see my Joyful World stitching.  I took this photo on Monday night and didn't get to post it until today... but that was a blessing in disguise as I can now show you this piece all finished!!

Finish #4:
The Snowflower Diaries - Joyful World SAL (January)
started 4 Jan 2016 - finished 9 Feb 2016
January was my Day 4 start for the Crazy Challenges and is Finish #4. I am starting to get used to these happy dances.... :o)

This delightful piece was stitched on a piece of linen that I had in my stash - it is a bamboo colour and was 28ct from memory.  All threads are DMC and I added some bling... the centre of the snowdrops and the 3 centre stitches in the border all have a clear bead added to them.  I now have February to complete and March will be released by the time you read this....

If you are interested in stitching these SAL pieces you will find the free designs on the Snowflower Diaries blog as well as on the FB page that she was set up specifically for the SAL.

So that's the latest... I do have a new start to show you but will come back in a day or so to give you a sneak peek on that one.  You never know it might be another finish by then!!

Til next time... happy stitching!
Hugs xx

The Alphabet Club - Detention for Letter "G"

"They only met online, but it changed their lives forever"
It's time for "The Alphabet Club" (TAC)

I must hang my head in shame.... not only am I really late for Detention Posting... but yet again I have no update on the ABC Chats - they still look like this.....

Oh well, that what happens when life and crazy challenges get in the way!

I spent some time the other day doing some research on "G" words and you know what - there isn't an awful lot of "G" words in our slang that I can post here.... but I did find a couple!

G'day: good day; standard Australian greeting; hello
Galah: a loudmouthed idiot; someone easily duped
Goat: a fool
Grouse: something good
Gi-normous: huge (gigantic/enormous).
Grundies: undies, underwear (from Reg Grundy, a television person)
Goog: another name for a chicken egg (as in "googgie egg") but strangely we also have a saying "full as a goog" which has nothing to do with eggs!!
The “G": short for the MCG (Melbourne) - hallowed turf for AFL and cricket supporters!
Gabba: Woolongabba Cricket Ground (Brisbane)

I could not find any typically Aussie foods that begin with "G" so I thought I would leave you with a picture of a pink and grey Galah!

In the wild these guys can live for 25 years... but in captivity they can live for up to 50 years!
When I was growing up we had one of these lovely birds as a pet - his name was Sport and he was given to me by an old couple because I used to go and visit him all the time!  (I am not sure why they did that - maybe they were going travelling.... I was only 5 so can't remember that far back!!)

Anyway I digress!  Sport travelled with us from South Australia to the far flung reaches of Western Australia (Flinders to the Pilbara) and he lived to a ripe old age.  Because his previous owners had clipped his wing he couldn't fly so he didn't have to stay in his cage all the time - he would go wandering around inside the house and around the garden and would follow us kids and the dog around like a shadow.  As he got older though he got quite cantankerous and would hide by the back door and nip your ankles when you came out!

We have photos of him doing silly things like hanging off my baby sister's nappy and pulling it off her backside... and climbing inside the dog food tin to eat the jelly that stuck to the sides (his favourite thing to do!).  He also used to put his head inside the dog's mouth... goodness knows why! They were very close.... :o)

I have no idea how old he was when we got him (over 10 years old anyway) and we estimated that when he finally passed away he must have been well over 30 years (maybe older!).

So that's it for my very late "G" post..... hope you enjoyed my galah tale!

If you would like to join in the fun of "The Alphabet Club", pop over to Chiara's blog (The Grey Tail) to see what all the fun is about and link up your post for the Letter "G".  Posting is normally the first Saturday of the month.

See you next time... Happy stitching

Cheerio for now!

Stitching Update and Some Finishes....

web image
Hello!  Long time no speak.... It was still January the last time I managed to post on my blog... and now it's February!  At the risk of sounding like a broken record - where is time going????

January Stitching Update:
As I mentioned in my last couple of posts I have been doing lots of little stitching starts for various January challenges.  So how did I go in January do you ask....

**Cross Stitch Crazy 2016 (FB group) - 15 starts in 15 days: ü

**Debbie's Ultimate Crazy January Challenge 2016 (DUCJC2016) - 31 starts for January (will inc WIP's): well... I managed a total of 21 starts and then decided to concentrate on finishing a couple of those starts... so this challenge will carry over now to Feb - maybe! :o)

**Stitch Maynia (FB group) January SAL update listed below:

2016 Chatelaine Shenanigans SAL (Start a new Chatelaine or stitch on a Chatelaine WIP): didn't stitch on my Chatelaine but that's ok as this is a year long SAL!

New Year, New Start! (Jan 2016 - start something new!):  ü

Year of Starts! (12 monthly starts): ü "Snow Mates" was my Jan start/finish

Brooke's Books Year Long SAL! (Stitch one of Brooke's ornaments/characters/designs each month): no stitching on my Brooke's Books WIP's in January.

JCS SAL (FB Group) - January: "Snow Mates" - Blue Ribbon Designs ü

Christmas Ornie SAL Blog Theme: Music - Durene Jones' Christmas Chorus ü

Halloween Ornie SAL Blog Theme: Winged Creatures, Crows etc  - stitching Joyful World SAL - January design as it features a crow (not Halloween... but shoe-horned in!) - almost finished

So... onto stitching pics!  In my last post I showed you starts 1-14 for January - below we now have starts 15-21...

So that's all the new starts so far for 2016....

Finishes:
You saw Finish #1 earlier in this post (Cherries Notebook) but wait, there is more....

Here are Finishes #2 and #3 for 2016!
"Snow Mates" - Blue Ribbon Designs
Just Cross Stitch 2015 Ornaments Magazine
"Snow Mates" is the January ornie for the JCS SAL FB group and was my start #9 for the January challenges and is Finish #2 for 2016.

(I don't think that I have mentioned the JCS SAL in a post yet... so in a nutshell it is a Facebook group where we are all stitching ornies from the Just Cross Stitch 2015 Christmas Ornaments magazine.  We took a vote on what 12 ornies we would like to stitch for 2016 and the top 12 won! Each month during 2016 we will all stitch the same ornie that month.  If you don't like a month's ornie you can take a wildcard and stitch another ornie from the magazine for the month. Great plan, hey!)

"Christmas Chorus" designer: Durene Jones
Cross Stitch Card Shop #93
"Christmas Chorus" designed by Durene Jones is my Finish #3 for 2016.  This little cutie is my January entry for the Christmas Ornie SAL 2016 - theme was Music.

February Stitching Plans:
Stitch Maynia's February SAL is "We Love Stitching" (Valentine's theme/or stitching anything we love - can be designer/design/fabric/etc - as long as we love it!)

JCS SAL (FB Group): "Winter's Eve" designer The Prairie Schooler

Christmas Ornie SAL Blog Theme: Snow - "Snow Mates" is my February entry and that is already done! ♥- ü

Halloween Ornie SAL Blog Theme: Mummies and Monsters

So that's it for this marathon post..... hope I didn't bore you too much with my rambling!  See you all again real soon for the next round of TUSAL, Alphabet Club and GG posts that are all due in the very near future!

Take care and happy stitching
Hugs xx
